Exhibition “Leafing through Bram”
Exhibition dedicated to the outstanding scientist Alfred Bram. The famous work of his life “Animal Life” is not a boring encyclopedia on zoology, but an exciting journey around our planet. More than 200 exhibits from the funds of the Darwin Museum - rare books, interesting exhibits from the collection of birds and mammals - will rediscover the huge and wonderful world of wildlife before visitors to the exhibition.
Visitors to the exhibition will have to make a journey through the Life of Animals, namely the world of mammals and birds - volumes written by Bram himself. Exotic animals of Africa, Australia, North and South America will not leave you indifferent. Charming monkeys, striped lemurs, “alien” arms and sloths, graceful wild cats, clumsy wolverines ... Almost all the heroes of Bram’s fascinating book will gather at one site.
You will learn what kind of animal the Spaniards call “Juan with Lace”, what kind of animal terrifies not only people, but also its four-legged relatives, which birds have long been considered “angels”, soaring in the clouds and eating manna from heaven, and which the Greeks called the beloved animals the goddess of wisdom of Minerva. Perhaps looking at them and reading emotional, poetic and touching author’s comments, you will feel a piece of the great love that Bram felt for our smaller brothers.
Alfred Bram twice visited Africa, visited Hungary and Spain, Norway and Lapland, Western Siberia and Central Asia. From each expedition he brought the most important treasures for him - new knowledge and discoveries about animals. He recorded his first scientific observations in a field diary, which in 1864 grew into a multi-volume work, the first popular science encyclopedia about animals - "Animal Life".
The book was richly illustrated, and the animals are described very emotionally, lively, accessible, which immediately made it a bestseller. The proof is the first lifetime edition of the book “Animal Life” presented at the exhibition from the collection of the rare book of the Darwin Museum and many colorful publications in other languages, which have been sold around the world in thousand copies.
The amazing facts of Bram’s biography, its ups and downs, fame and tragedy, as well as old photographs, prints and rare lifetime editions of the scientist - all this you will see at the Bram Leafing exhibition in the Darwin Museum. Educational programs are waiting for adults and children - computer quiz “Voices of birds and animals according to Bram”, informative and creative contests “Learn Bram” and “Leafing through Bram”.
