How to arrange a flower garden
How to choose flowers for the garden and what to look for? The advice is shared by the biologist Olga Dumkina.
What to look for when buying flower seeds? What flowers can be sown immediately in open ground?
Make sure that the seeds meet their expiration dates. Inspect the appearance of the bag. It happens that in shops they get wet - this negatively affects the germination of seeds. See the weight or number of pieces in the bag. Seeds, which are very few in packaging, often have attractive prices. Pay attention to the indicated height of the plant, so as not to make a mistake when choosing a place for planting.
In May, you can sow in the open ground nice cold-resistant annual flowers: asters, laurels, matthiol, eschscholzia, godetia, clarkia, three-colored bindweed, cornflower, calendula.
What to plant so that this summer there was lush flowering on the site?
Plant lilies, dahlias and gladioli. And in the same season you are guaranteed to get a beautiful flowering garden. These plants can be grown in flower beds, in containers or flowerpots. When buying lilies, remember, the larger the bulb, the more powerful the flower will grow. Bulbs must be hard to the touch. They should not have rotted barrels, it is good if all the shells are firmly pressed against each other. In gladioli, the bottom should be free of roots and mold. The presence of brown sores on the bulb is unacceptable. When choosing dahlias, pay attention to the root neck (this is the place of transition from the root to the stem). On it you will see designated kidneys. You need to search only on the root neck; on the nodules themselves, there are no kidneys. The more kidneys you find, the better. The nodules themselves should be much thicker than a pencil, alive and healthy. Low-growing dahlias are suitable for container growing, pay attention to this when buying. Such dahlias do not need pinching and pinching, their stems do not require additional support. Dahlias in flowerpots should be regularly fed and watered abundantly. The variant with containers is also good because in the autumn, before flower frost, flowerpots with plants can be brought into the room, thereby prolonging the bright summer.
What plants can be planted in shady areas, where there are many forest trees?
In small places, plant small-onion ones (crocuses, woods, cannons, chionodoxes). Lilies of the valley will create a natural carpet blooming in May. Shade-tolerant ferns, hosts, brunners will decorate the forest area with the contrasting shape of their foliage. Ground covers - periwinkle, tenacity, tiarella form islands of pretty greenery and will feel good even in the dull shade of trees. If the garden has a little lighted areas - plant astilba, aquilegia, kupen, dicenter, hydrangea tree. Dohren white Elegantissima will also lighten the farthest corner of your garden.
How to choose fragrant plants for the garden?
Hyacinths and lilies of the valley smell extremely pleasant, and then peonies. Turkish carnation emits a delicate, delicate aroma. Lavender, lilies, roses, irises, phlox, as well as annual flowers: matthiola, heliotrope, alissum (alyssum), reseda - have a pleasant smell. Plant jasmine, lilac, honeysuckle next to the porch and arbor.
Spicy herbs - thyme, clary sage, anise, valerian, Moldavian snakehead will fill the garden with magnificent aroma. It is funny, but not all varieties of fragrant tobacco, despite the name, have a strong aroma. As a rule, “colored” varieties do not smell, and tobacco with greenish flowers is fragrant.
